Dr. Michelle Scantland, DVM, BSc.H

Dr Michelle Scantland moved to Petawawa in 2000 when she was a member of the Canadian Forces. She released in 2003 to pursue a career in Veterinary medicine. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College she worked as a locum for Pembroke Animal Hospital. In September of 2007 Michelle and her husband Louis purchased Petawawa Animal Hospital. Dr Michelle loves working with small animals. In her precious spare time Dr Michelle spends time with her two Golden Retrievers: Cieira and Rooney, her two boxers : Becks and Kailleigh, and her cat Mickey. Dr Michelle has a special interest in reproduction and hopes to be breeding CKC registered Boxers in two years when Kailleigh is full grown. In her spare time Michelle has recently started whitewater kayaking, horseback riding and golf. She looks forward to improving her skills in all of these sports!
Sarah Labelle, Veterinary Assistant

Having been born and raised in Petawawa Sarah could not think of a better place to start her career than at Petawawa Animal Hospital. Sarah realized she was interested in a career with animals after spending a summer on a Family friend's farm. She would continue to return each summer for the next 4 years. After graduating in 2001 from St-Lawrence college as a Veterinary Assistant, Sarah spent 1 year at AECL working as a research assistant. Sarah joined the team at Petawawa Animal Hospital in September 2003 and has enjoyed working here ever since. At home Sarahs' furry family included 2.5 cats, Destiny (who lives with her mom), Bubba and Rain as well 2 dogs Sheeba and Emery.
Katie Gilbert, RVT

Katie Gilbert graduated from the Veterinary Technologist program at St. Lawrence college in Kingston in 2003. She worked at Blair Animal Hospital in Ottawa for a year, then came to work at the Petawawa Animal Hospital in 2004. Katie and her husband Eric call Chalk River home. They live there with their 3 pets: Midas, a Lab/Boxer cross, Stella, a Boston Terrier, and her cat George. Besides work, Katie enjoys horseback riding and coaching, road trips and hanging with her pets.
Amanda Sanford, Veterinary Assistant

Amanda started in August of 2008. Amanda was born and raised on a small farm on Wolfe Island, near Kingston. She quickly realized her love for animals, while growing up with ducks, chickens, horses and ponies. After graduating in 2000 from St. Lawrence College as a Veterinary Assistant, Amanda spent several years in Kingston holding a position at the Humane Society. Amanda then moved to Greenwood, Nova Scotia where she worked at Greenwood Animal Hospital for the last 4 years gaining valuable experience in the field. Amanda not only loves animals but also enjoys them away from work. She enjoys riding and has her own horse at her parent’s farm on Wolfe Island. Amanda lives with her fiancé Jamie and they share their home with Sasha, a very energetic Siberian husky. They enjoy travelling, going to their families cottages and going to the movies.
Louis Proulx, Hospital Manager

Louis first came to the area as a Combat Engineer fresh from trades training in Chilliwack B.C. in 1993. After a successful carreer in Petawawa Louis retired as a Sergeant in 2008. He took on the duties of hospital manager for Petawawa Animal Hospital and has been a great asset to the practice in the areas of finances, human ressources and customer service. (He is also the local repairman and vet assistant when needed!) In his spare time Louis enjoys many hobies including golf, sports, and most recently whitewater kayaking. His favorite dog breeds are any with "smooshed" faces. He and Michelle own four dogs including Becks and Kailleigh their two boxers who keep them very busy when not at work!
Jennifer Sharman grew up in Kitchener, Ontario. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Northern College in 2004. After graduation she worked at the Sunset Strip Veterinary Clinic in Owen Sound before joining our team in June 2010 when she moved here with her fiancé Darryl and Cash, a Beagle Basset mix. In her spare time she enjoys being active by running and competing in triathlons.
